Barrow 2-1 Wrexham

Barrow moved out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win at home to Wrexham on Tuesday night.

Nick Chadwick netted the winner in the 76th minute after coming off the bench with the scores tied at 1-1. Ashley Westwood had earlier put the ball in his own net to cancel out Mark Jones' superb opener for the away side.

Barrow had lost five of their previous six games in the league but climbed above Eastbourne Borough into 20th after their first league victory at Holker Street in five months.

Wrexham, who are without a win in six games, started out strongly with Jones almost finding the back of the net, only to see his fourth-minute shot deflected against the post.

But chances were limited for both sides in an uneventful first half with both teams lacking imagination in the final third.

The match came to life on the hour mark when Jones smashed home a 20-yard drive past the hapless Tim Deasy in the Barrow goal.

But it took just four minutes for the Bluebirds to equalise as Westwood turned the ball into the goal after Sam Russell had failed to deal with an Andy Bond shot.

Paul Rutherford then set up Chadwick for a winner with the substitute expertly finishing past Russell from 20 yards out.

Wrexham's woes continued as Mansour Assoumani was sent off in the closing minutes for a poor tackle on Paul Edwards.
