Khan hoping to be fit for Havant

Shabir Khan is facing a race against time in order to be declared fit for Worcester City's Blue Square South trip to Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday week.

The defender was forced to leave the field after suffering an ankle injury in his side's 3-2 win against AFC Wimbledon.

The 22-year-old left-back, who was recently named as player-of-the-month for September, will be hoping for a hasty return to action after spending most of last season on the sidelines with various injuries.

Shabir told Worcester News: "It's been going well and this is my first injury of the season, but I am looking to get back for the Havant and Waterlooville game.

"I have been lucky to have this week off.

"I don't know what it is I have done but there is a lot of bruising.

"It was nice to receive something like that, it's my first one but it was unfortunate I wasn't able to finish the game.

"There are one or two results we have been disappointed with so far but I feel we are looking good."

Manager Richard Dryden sees the league break as a blessing in disguise for Shabir, who has formed a vital part of a defence that has shipped just three goals away from home in the league.

Dryden said: "He's a big part of the squad and if there was a good time to get injured, maybe this was it. I am hoping he will be fit in two weeks' time.

"His confidence is getting there now. His positional sense is getting better and his decision-making is improving and that's down to him listening and learning."
