Histon to appeal Pope verdict

Blue Square Premier outfit Histon are planing to appeal against the Football Association's decision to ban Craig Pope for four matches.

The Stutes right-back was found guility of racism by an FA tribunal and was handed a suspension and a fine of £325.

The incident took place on Boxing Day last year in the game between Cambridge United and Histon, in which Pope racially abused U's striker Leo Fortune-West.

The charge of 'abusive and/or insulting words aggravated by a racial element' has been denied by both the player and the club and legal action has been taken.

Histon's barrister Gill McGiven told BBC Sport: "Nothing which came out in the hearing provided anything new to the case - it's one player's word against another."

A date for the appeal is yet to be set.
