Histon 0-0 Grays

Histon could not build on their opening day victory as they drew 0-0 with Grays Athletic, who were playing their first game of the new season.

Both sides created a number of chances that they were unable to convert but the home side will take encouragement from keeping a second successive clean sheet.

Grays created the earliest scoring opportunity when Adriano Rigoglioso tested Danny Naisbitt, but the goalkeeper was equal to the task as he produced a fingertip save.

Josh Simpson was at the centre of Histon's best moves as he set up Jamie Barker inside 20 minutes but the midfielder's shot failed to find the target.

Danny Wright then forced Gravelmen keeper Preston Edwards into a fine save to keep out a well timed far-post header.

At the other end Rigoglioso and Jamie Slabber linked up well on the counter with the latter unable to get his header on target early in the second half.

Edwards was called into action again as he expertly kept out Barker's dipping shot while Simpson came close with a long-range effort that had the busy stopper back-pedaling towards his goal, but the shot just cleared the cross bar.

Nathaniel Knight-Percival also saw his headed effort expertly cleared off the line by Edwards.

Either side could have claimed the victory as chances continued to be created but it wasn't to be as both keepers marshalled their defences well - to the anguish of the profligate strikers.

Histon bookings: None

Grays Athletic bookings: Terry.
