Oxford Utd 2-0 Histon

Oxford United moved back to the top of the Blue Square Premier standings with a 2-0 win over 10-man Histon at Kassam Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Sam Deering and Matt Green saw the U's move back to the summit after Stevenage's defeat at Rushden & Diamonds.

In a dull first-half it was Jack Midson who came closest to breaking the deadlock, but he failed to trouble Stutes stopper Danny Naisbitt, who made an easy save.

However the game was turned on it's head five minutes before the interval when Histon central defender Adam Bygrave was given his marching orders after he brought down Alfie Potter, who seemed to be through on goal.

It didn't take the home side long to make their numerical advantage count as Deering curled in a free-kick from 25-yards out after Potter was brought down by Nat Knight-Percival shortly after the interval.

The U's dominated from there on in and they missed a number of chances to increase their lead.

But substitute Green wrapped up the three points for Chris Wilder's charges with a minute to go after Jack Midson set him up in the area and he made no mistake from right in front to make it 2-0.

However, Wilder's side triumph was marred by the injury of Potter, who pulled his hamstring 10 minutes from the end and could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines

Oxford United bookings: Bulman
