Trainer: Scored the winner
Oxford United eventually did enough to collect all three points in a tightly contested affair at Wessex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Goalkeeper Billy Turley was immense between the sticks and thwarted a number of Weymouth attacks throughout the encounter.
The U's finally got the breakthrough they were looking for after 75 minutes when Phil Trainer headed in at left-hand side of the penalty area.
Darren Patterson's side almost doubled their advantage in injury time but they were held at bay by Weymouth shot-stopper Stephen Henderson.
Jamie Hand hit the crossbar with a powerful long-range effort and Trainer pounced on the rebound with a left-footed shot from 18 yards out.
However, Henderson tipped Trainer's effort around the post to hold his opponents to just one goal.
Weymouth bookings: None.
Oxford bookings: Odubade 80, Quinn 86.
Ref: S Hooper.
Att: 1635.
