Crittenden up for challenge

New Dorchester Town signing Nick Crittenden has his sights set on the Blue Square South side attaining some success in the new season.

The former Weymouth playmaker signed for the Magpies in June and has already started pre-season training with his new team-mates.

Shaun Brooks' side would want to improve from their 21st finish during last season and Crittenden is confident his new club can turn things around.

The 29-year-old told the Dorset Echo: "I've never played at Conference South level but I know there are some good sides out there.

"The overall goal is for us to push towards the play-offs. We can't just set out as if we are going to be a bottom half team - you have got to be positive.

"With them staying up, and me not wanting to move away from Yeovil, it was an ideal move.

"Hopefully with that luck, and after a disappointing season, they'll be going upwards now.

"It's a fresh start and a new challenge is always welcome. I've played at the ground before while at Yeovil and I enjoyed playing there, it's a nice pitch.

"They didn't have to sell the club to me, it was an ideal opportunity."

Crittenden enjoyed a successful stint with the Terras, scoring eight goals in 52 appearances but felt the timing was right to leave with the arrival of John Hollins.

He added: "When a new manager comes in they tend to like their own players and sometimes that's the way it goes in football, you just have to pick yourself up and get on with playing.

"More importantly, you need to be enjoying football - you play your best when you are."
