Ryan Williams
Ryan Williams is delighted with his new role as Weymouth club captain and is relishing the responsibility that accompanies the position.
Anton Robinson will still don the armband on the pitch for the Terras, but 29-year-old Williams admitted he was both shocked and excited by his appointment.
He told This Is Weymouth: "When I was told it was a big shock for me but a huge honour as well especially after only being here for such a short space of time.
"I have never been a captain before but now I have been handed the responsibility I will be doing all that I can to help the young boys come on.
"Anton will be the skipper on the pitch as well which I think is a great job for him. He is a superb player and leader, and now we all just cannot wait to get started."
The midfielder has been impressed by the gruelling pre-season training sessions implemented by manager John Hollins and reveals the camp is confident ahead of their first friendly with Portland United on Friday.
"Last week was valuable hard work for all the boys and they have all settled in superbly," he added.
The team spirit that has already been built up is just fantastic and it is like we have all been together for a few months rather than just a week or so.
"That is a massive part of football in my opinion. Of course it is not the only thing you need but if you have that type of togetherness and are willing to play for each other then you will always have half a chance and the fact we are showing that already is very encouraging.
"We are still working on our fitness but a lot more ball work is coming into play now as well which is good.
"We have a fit bunch of lads, there is no doubt about that.
"In fact, I would say this group is one of the fittest I have ever worked with and everyone seems to be thriving and really eager to get going.
"Every footballer cannot wait for their next game and on Friday it will be nice to get some minutes under our belts."
