Patterson parts ways with young trio

Oxford United manager Darren Patterson has decided not to offer new contracts to three of his youth team players.

Defender Ben Weedon will not be offered a new deal when his non-contract agreement ends while Sam Warrell and Aaron Posey will be allowed to leave following the completion of their scholarships.

Patterson told his club's official website: "It's always a very hard decision to make, and having worked with all three in the youth team I know they are great kids who have given it their best shot.

"We will do everything we can to help them find other clubs."

Youth development officer Les Taylor added: "By far the worst part of my job is having to tell young players news like this. They have all been with us for a long time and are local lads with fantastic attitudes.

"Unfortunately a decision has to be made purely on football and sentiment can't come into it.

"All three now have the chance to find another team, work hard and show us that we were wrong.

"We will certainly keep an eye on their progress, wherever they end up.

"I'd like to thank them for their efforts and we wish them well for the future."
