Histon's play-off aspirations took a slight denting on Bank Holiday Monday after they were held to a goalless draw by Rushden & Diamonds at Bridge Road.
The Stutes dropped down to sixth place after picking up just one point on Monday, but will take heart from the fact they trail fifth-placed by two points with a game in hand.
The match was lacking in any real quality as Rushden were forced to switch to a more direct style of play to match their opponents.
Histon had the best chance of the game on the half-hour mark when a long ball was not dealt with by Dale Roberts, but Danny Wright somehow managed to blast over the bar from six yards out.
Just before the interval, Rushden's Nick McNamara fired wide of the target with a shot from outside the area, while Histon's Jack Midson also came close with an effort at the other end of the pitch.
It was much the same after the break as both sides continued to create goalscoring chances but both goalkeepers rarely tested and as such, the encounter ended in stalemate.
Histon bookings: None.
Rushden Bookings: McNamara.
