Kettering 0-1 Rushden

Rushden and Diamonds continued their winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Kettering Town at Rockingham Road on Monday evening.

Ashley Westwood netted the only goal of the game as he headed into his own net after 32 minutes with Rushden then holding on for the last 20 minutes with ten men after Justin Miller picked up a second booking.

The visitors came close to opening the scoring moments after kick off as Ryan Charles picked up a Dominic Green pass, only to be thwarted by Nathan Abbey.

Kettering threatened through Westwood, who headed against a post only to see the ball ricochet out of the goal.

But Westwood found the target just after the half hour, albeit inadvertently, as he attempted to clear a Curtis Osano effort.

Diamonds came out of the half-time break in search of a second as Dominic Green forced a fine save from Abbey before Marcus Kelly struggled in front of goal at the other end.

Westwood had a chance to make amends for his error with another header that just flew wide of goal before Miller was shown his marching orders in the 72nd minute.

Diamonds were forced to defend for the remainder of the match and did well to hold on to their lead for the three points.

Kettering bookings: Dempster.

Rushden & Diamonds bookings: Miller, Howe.

Sent Off: Miller (72).

Ref: Stephen Ross.

Att: 2313.
