Play-off hopefuls Kidderminster Harriers survived a late scare in their Blue Square Premier encounter against Salisbury City on Saturday to come away with a point.
With the tie already in injury time and heading for a 0-0 draw, Adam Bartlett pulled off a fantastic penalty save after Lee Baker had fouled Charles Ademeno in the box.
This was a match that manager Mark Yates would have expected to win however, with Salisbury struggling at the wrong end of the table. The Harriers are now seven points adrift of Torquay, who currently occupy the fifth and final play-off spot and face a tough task if they are to make up the difference.
Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer's early miss seemed to set the tone for the rest of the afternoon as he blasted his shot wide with less than a minute played.
Salisbury were not without their chances though as Michael Fowler brought the best out of Kidderminster keeper Bartlett on the half-hour mark with a well-hit shot from outside the area
Barnes-Homer should have done better minutes later as he wasted another good opportunity, heading just wide of the goal from David McDermott's pinpoint cross.
The bumpy pitch made it difficult for both sides with the tie descending into a scrap the longer the game went on.
Matthew Tubbs gave little indication that the Whites would hit the target with his wayward shot on 48 minutes with Barnes-Homer giving keeper James Bittner no more than a routine save on 69 minutes.
Bittner was forced into a double save late on from substitutes Brian Smikle and Justin Richards. The stopper did well to get in the way of Smikle's effort before saving the follow-up shot from Richards.
With the game winding down, the home support were devastated to see Baker hack down Ademeno for a clear-cut penalty. But Bartlett was up to the task and dived low to his right to keep out Matthew Tubbs' well-hit spot kick.
