Salisbury 1-1 Rushden & Diamonds

Salisbury City staged a second-half comeback to earn a share of the spoils against Rushden & Diamonds at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Whites boss Nick Holmes has now seen his side go unbeaten for eight consecutive games despite the departure of loanee Chris Todd and injuries to key players Matt Tubbs, Charles Ademeno and Michael Fowler.

The hosts struggled to get going in the opening minutes and Rushden took full advantage by claiming the lead after 19 minutes of play.

Jake Beecroft found Rob Wolleaston in the box with a well-struck cross and the attacker turned and hit a low shot that was partially stopped by goalkeeper James Bittner and rolled over the line.

The Diamonds created numerous chances to double their advantage but will be left ruing their poor finishing as Salisbury clawed their way back into contention after the half-time break.

Rushden started the second period strongly but some superb goaltending by Bittner ensured that the visitors didn't extend their slender lead.

Despite controlling proceedings, Rushden just couldn't fashion a second goal and the home side finally drew level - against the run of the play - in the 78th minute.

On-loan defender Sean Clohessy sent in a cross which was met by the head of striker Charlie Griffin and with the ball heading goalwards, new signing Djoumin Sangare stabbed home for his debut goal.

The french defender had the chance to double his and Salisbury's tally minutes later but his header failed to hit the target.

Rushden also had a chance to clinch victory late on but had their penalty appeal turned down after the ball hit Jon Bass on the arm in the area.

However, the referee waved play on and the match ended in stalemate.
