Grays Athletic 3 -1 Salisbury

Relegation-threatened Grays Athletic overcame Salisbury City on Saturday afternoon with the help of a brace from Andy Pugh.

Pugh, currently on-loan from Gillingham, put the host's ahead on twelve minutes with a powerful header following a well weighted corner form Barry Coogan.

Salisbury rallied and enjoyed a period of sustained possesion, but failed to capitalise. Then, just before half time, Pugh struck again, collecting a pinpoint pass from Stuart Thurgood and hammering it home from the edge of the box.

After the break, Pugh would turn provider, finding Jamie Taylor in space, and the striker made no mistake in giving his team a massive advantage.

Man-of-the-match Pugh was then forced off with an injury in the 54th minute.

In the 63rd minute, Stuart Thurgood went into the referee's book for dissent. Jamie Slabber, who was brought on as a substitute for Jamie Taylor in the 60th minute, also picked up a yellow in the 71st minute.

Charles Ademeno toe-poked in a consolation goal for Salisbury in the 70th minute, but it was too little, too late for the Whites.

Grays Bookings: Thurgood, Slabber.

Salisbury bookings: None.

Ref: G Sutton.

Att: 761.

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it.
