Prkinson: Claimed the winning goal
Cambridge United kept the pressure on league leaders Burton Albion after edging past 16th-placed Salisbury City at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Gary Brabin's side will have renewed optimism of toppling the Brewers off the top of the pile after reducing the gap between the two sides to just three points.
The U's looked good value for their win despite failing to convert a number of chances throughout, while the hosts battled valiantly after falling behind in the 20th minute.
The visitors started brightly and efforts from Scott Rendell and Jai Reason kept Salisbury stopper James Bittner on his toes.
Cambridge broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Chris Holroyd played a ball to Rendell from the left and the on-loan Peterborough striker swept the ball into the back of the net from close range.
However, the Whites responded well and drew level in the 32nd minute when Charlie Griffin met Darrell Clarke's free-kick with a header from close in.
They looked like they might just get something from this game as the half-time break loomed nearer but a bit of individual brilliance from Andy Parkinson gifted the visitors the lead.
Parkinson cut in from the left flank and shifted the ball onto his right foot before firing a shot into the bottom corner.
Parkinson's effort had taken a touch from Salisbury defender Neil Martin as it headed for goal, but the U's striker claimed the goal.
The second period failed to produce any goals despite Cambridge quartet Holroyd, Rendell, and Reason all having good chances to further extend their side's lead.
The best chance fell to and Wayne Hatswell in the 81st minute but he somehow missed the target from six yards after latching onto Robbie Willmott's outswinging corner.
Salisbury bookings: Griffin, Fowler, Clohessy.
Cambridge bookings: Bolland, Reason, Carden.

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it. | ||
