Stevenage 3-1 Salisbury

Stevenage Borough closed the gap on Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United to seven points with a 3-1 win over Salisbury at Broadhall Way.

Mark Roberts gave the home side the lead, but Chris Flood put City back on level terms before goals by Charlie Griffin and Chris Beardsley secured the three points for Boro.

Boro were dominant from the outset, but they struggled to break down a resolute Salisbury defence early on, however, they did manage to find the break-through just before the interval when the Whites failed to deal with a free-kick into the box and Roberts pounced to head the ball home.

The visitors came out firing in the second period and they managed to find an equaliser in the 53rd minute when substitute Chris Flood found some space behind the Whites defence and scored with his first touch of the game.

However, their joy was short-lived as the home side went back in front just five minutes later when Yemi Odubade found Griffin in the area, who managed to turn his marker and slide the ball past the keeper to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Graham Westley's charges then wrapped up the game with ten minutes to play when Odubade found Beardesly in some space and the hitman took an excellent first touch before drilling the ball home to make it 3-1.

Stevenage bookings: Brough, Laird.

Salisbury bookings: Clohessy, Oastler.

Ref: A.E Rayner (Loughborough).

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it.
