Salisbury 1-3 Rushden

Rushden & Diamonds made it three wins on the trot when they beat Salisbury 3-1 at Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Saturday.

The Diamonds scored a flurry of late goals as Paul Terry found the back of the net and Aaron O'Connor netted a brace to see his side take the three points.

Salisbury City proved to be the dominant side early on as hitman Matt Tubbs came close to giving the Whites a first-half lead only to be denied by Diamonds stopper Nathan Abbey.

Mark Byrne had the visitors best effort of the first half when his shot went narrowly wide just before the interval.

Tubbs had another chance to give the home side the advantage early in the second period, but again he could find no way past a determined Abbey.

The game seemed to be heading for a goalless draw until, with 11 minutes to play, Terry broke the deadlock when he blasted the ball from 20 yards out to leave the keeper with no chance.

This seemed to spring the game into life and just four minutes later O'Connor made it 2-0 when he headed the ball home from right in front.

Darrell Clarke gave the home side something to shout about when he netted from close-range on the stroke of full-time.

However, any hopes they had of getting something from the game disappeared when O'Connor netted his second of the game with a well-driven shot to wrap up the points for the Diamonds.

Salisbury bookings: Bittner.

Rushden & D'monds bookings: Akurang, Corcoran, Abbey.

Att: 840.

Ref: Robbie Martin (England).

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it.
