Charlie Griffin

Salisbury 0-1 Stevenage

Stevenage Borough moved to within two points of Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United with a 1-0 away win over Salisbury on Saturday.

Charlie Griffin's first half strike was enough to give Graham Westley's charges the three points.

The first-half was an evenly contested affair with both sides failing to create any real goal-scoring opportunities.

The Whites has a rare chance early on when Chris Tubbs blasted an shot from just outside the area, but the ball went straight to Boro stopper Chris Day, who made an easy save.

But just when it seemed that the game would remain goalless going into the break, Griffin found the back of the net from 12 yards out after he capitalised on some poor defending from the home side.

Salisbury came close to finding an equaliser just after the interval when Darrell Clarke found some space, but he failed to trouble Day with his effort.

Any hope the home side had of clawing their way back into the game disappeared when Todd was given his marching orders for a foul on Griffin after being booked in the first half.

Salisbury bookings: Todd.

Sent Off: Todd (74).

Stevenage bookings: Bostwick, Roberts.

Att: 851.

Ref: A Bennett (Devon).

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it.
