Kettering 1-2 Salisbury

Salisbury City caused an upset as they beat an under-strength Kettering Town outfit 2-1 at Rockingham Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Poppies had one eye on the FA Cup replay with Leeds United in midweek so they went with a weaker lineup to the one which the home fans have become accustomed to.

And it backfired as the visiting Whites claimed a valuable three points in their fight against the drop.

However, Town had to work hard for the maximum points haul as they came from a goal down to claim the win.

The home side took the lead in the 19th minute when Anthony Elding slammed home his penalty after City's Stuart Anderson had handled in the box.

The visitors fought hard to keep themselves in the game after going a goal down and deservedly found an equaliser in the 36th minute.

Matthew Tubbs did brilliantly to react quickly to a loose ball and head home from close range.

The two sides came out after the break looking to gain an advantage, but it was the visitors who did just that in the 48th minute.

Anderson made up for his earlier error by finding the back of the net after some impressive work from Tubbs.

The Whites defended valiantly to hold on to their advantage and claimed what could be a vital three points come the end of the campaign.

The victory sees Salisbury move up to 18th, while Kettering dropped down to fifth with the defeat.
