Salisbury City 1-0 Tamworth

Salisbury City picked up their second win in a row thanks to an early Patrick Cox goal against Tamworth.

The Lambs visited The Raymond McEnhill Stadium as part of a double header against Salisbury which will see the two sides clash again at the same venue in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

The Whites wasted no time in putting themselves ahead. Rob Sinclair took a corner in the second minute which was latched onto by Cox who side footed home from six yards.

The home side then continued to dominate and came close to doubling their lead about ten minutes later. Bradley Gray found himself with just the Tamworth keeper to beat but his lob went wide of the left-hand upright.

Tamworth found themselves with a couple of chances, Michael Wylde had a goal disallowed after a foul, and shortly afterwards Neil MacKenzie was denied by Whites stopper James Bittner. But the majority of chances and possession in the first half fell to Salisbury with the end of the half turning into more of a defensive affair.

The second half saw Salisbury have the better of the play. Ben Adelsbury shot well wide after a rehearsed free kick with Sinclair and Gray also found himself with a couple of half chances which he was unable to convert.

Despite making three changes after the hour mark, the visitors failed to threaten towards the end of the game and Salisbury were good value for their 1-0 win.

Salisbury bookings: Sinclair, Clarke, Flood.

Tamworth bookings: Jay Smith, Murdock.

Att: 586.

Ref: Marvyn Amphlett (Worcestershire).

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it.
