Salisbury 2-1 Cambridge United

Cambridge United suffered another disappointing result as they were beaten 2-1 by Salisbury at Raymond McEnhill Stadium on Saturday.

The Whites came from a goal down to earn a much-needed three points and move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Blaine Hudson put the visitors ahead before a brace from Matthew Tubbs gave the Whites a valuable victory.

Jai Reason almost gave Martin Ling's troops the lead early-on when he fired just over the bar in the opening moments.

The visitors enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening half-hour and they were rewarded for their efforts just after the half-hour mark when Reason sent a free-kick into the area and Hudson rose to nod the ball home to give his side a 1-0 lead.

The U's should have been two in front going into the interval, but Adam Marriott's effort was blocked by teammate Lee Phillips on the line.

The Whites looked a different side when they came out for the second period and they found themselves back on level terms when Tubbs scored his first of the evening with a thunderbolt from just outside the area after Darrell Clarke played it short to him from a free-kick.

The game seemed to be heading for a stalemate, but with just a minute to play Rory McAuley was adjudged to have brought down Tubbs in the area and the referee awarded a penalty.

Tubss stepped up to knock the spot-kick into the back of the net and give his side a 2-1 lead.

However, the U's were throw a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty of their own as Calum Willock's effort was handled in the area.

But a fine save from Salisbury stopper James Bittner denied Reason from the spot as the Whites held on for the win.

Salisbury Bookings: Flood.

Cambridge Utd Bookings: McAuley, Reason.

A new looking ground that has been further developed since it was first opened in 1997. The first thing that strikes you about the stadium is that it is sunken, meaning that you enter at the back of the stands and descend into it.
